Some seekers of voice talent believe that it would be better to work with inexperienced talent from within your organization as opposed to hiring seasoned voice talent. While that may sound like an easier and cost-effective solution, you may want to stop and think about the following: Are you prepared to take the time to find out? Do you have the wherewithal to work with raw
talent and hope for a positive outcome? You may not – and more importantly, your boss may not! Do have that kind of extended timeline allotted to your project? Don’t let working with inexperienced voice talent tarnish your reputation and hamper you from reaching your project goals. When you partner with Don, not only do you get that big sigh of relief that comes from hiring people that understand all aspects of the project – you also gain more than you could imagine.
What You Need and What You Think You Need
We know you’re only thinking of hiring voice talent. But what you may really need is a person who can fulfill other project roles as well. My experience positions me to offer needed behind the scenes skills such as: director, script editor and even project manager. These are the types of services that only a small business owner and seasoned industry veteran can offer you. I’ve been through the tough spots and have worked out practical solutions that will drive your project to the most successful outcomes.
Good Read – Bad Copy
We know- it may sound good on paper. But what will it sound like on a live read? I always ask the client if they are open to a critique or even a longer rewrite as it may help to make the script flow in a more natural way. Sometimes awkwardly written copy can be polished to work smoother with a voice talent’s persona. That’s only something an industry person can evaluate for you. After all, you’re hiring them not only for their great read, but also for the personality that the voice portrays.
If Time is Money – Then How Much Time Have You Got?
Another reason to hire experienced voice talent: I know how to deliver the message and keep the product at its desired length. You’re paying for air time and so it’s a good idea to understand whether or not a script can be read and delivered in a polished manner at a length of :30 or :45, etc… I respect and understand your budget and your budget for airtime. Clients who need that
little extra guidance will be happy they chose me.
